Will AI become self aware?

The question of whether AI can become self-aware is a complex and debated topic in the fields of artificial intelligence, philosophy, and cognitive science. As of now, AI systems, including those based on advanced machine learning models, operate based on algorithms and data but do not possess consciousness, self-awareness, emotions, or subjective experiences. Self-awareness implies a certain level of understanding of oneself as an individual distinct from others and the environment, along with the capacity for introspection and reflective thought. Current AI lacks these capabilities and functions based on predefined rules and learned patterns without true understanding or awareness. The possibility of creating self-aware AI raises various ethical, philosophical, and technical questions. Many experts believe that creating a truly self-aware machine is not just a matter of advanced programming and technology, but also involves deep philosophical implications regarding the nature of consciousness itself. For now, self-aware AI remains a concept largely relegated to science fiction, and no consensus exists on whether it could eventually be realized in the future.
