1. Wright Model A crash (1908): The first fatal airplane crash occurred on September 17, 1908, when United States Army Lieutenant Thomas Selfridge was killed during a demonstration flight of the Wright Model A at Fort Myer, Virginia. 2. Beauvais-Betheny mid-air collision (1919): This was the first recorded mid-air collision in history, which occurred on August 25, 1919, between a French Air Force Blériot plane and a Farman F.60 Goliath airliner. All seven people on board both planes were killed. 3. Tenerife airport disaster (1977): This was the deadliest aviation accident in history, which occurred on March 27, 1977, when two Boeing 747 planes collided on the runway of Los Rodeos Airport in Tenerife, Canary Islands. Helderberg Disaster (1987): On November 28, 1987, South African Airways Flight 295 crashed into the Indian Ocean off the coast of Mauritius, killing all 159 people on board. The cause of the crash has never been officially determined. 8. Charkhi Dadri Mid-air collision (1996): This was the deadliest mid-air collision in history, which occurred on November 12, 1996, when a Saudi Arabian Airlines Boeing 747 and a Kazakhstan Airlines Ilyushin Il-76 collided in mid-air over Charkhi Dadri, India, killing all 349 people on board both planes. 9. Swissair Flight 111 crash (1998): On September 2, 1998, Swissair Flight 111 crashed into the Atlantic Ocean near Halifax, Nova Scotia, killing all 229 people on board.
