**Problem Statement** In recent decades, the semi-arid regions of South Africa have faced increasing challenges due to the adverse effects of climate change, notably through the exacerbation of drought conditions. Among these areas, the Northern Cape Province is particularly vulnerable, characterised by its fragile ecosystems, limited water resources, and a population heavily reliant on agriculture for subsistence and livelihood (Schulze, 2016). The interrelation between persistent drought and food security has become a pressing concern, necessitating an in-depth investigation of their impacts within this context. Droughts, which are expected to become more frequent and severe due to climate variability (Hoffman et al., 2019), adversely affect agricultural productivity, water availability, and the overall socio-economic stability of rural communities in the Northern Cape. As agriculture is the primary economic activity in the province, contributing both to local food security and the national economy, the increasing intensity and duration of drought episodes pose critical risks to food production systems. The resultant decrease in yield amplifies food insecurity among vulnerable populations, leading to heightened malnutrition rates, increased poverty, and severe socio-economic disparities within the region (World Bank, 2020). In the Northern Cape, the traditional agricultural practices, such as extensive livestock farming and crop cultivation, are often ill-suited to cope with prolonged drought conditions. This misalignment exacerbates the vulnerabilities of communities that are largely dependent on these unpredictable climatic patterns for their sustenance (NDA, 2018). Furthermore, the impacts of drought are not only confined to agricultural productivity but extend to water resource management, health outcomes, and social cohesion, thereby catalysing a multitude of interrelated challenges that threaten the resilience of the region (SADC, 2017). Given these pressing issues, it becomes crucial to systematically explore the specific impacts of drought on food security within the Northern Cape Province. Understanding these dynamics will not only provide empirical insights into the socio-economic ramifications of climate-induced stressors but also facilitate the development of targeted interventions to enhance adaptive capacities among local communities. Therefore, this study aims to critically analyse the impacts of drought and food security in the semi-arid regions of South Africa, focusing on the Northern Cape Province, with the intention of contributing to evidence-based policy-making and sustainable agricultural practices. **References** 1.
