History education is crucial for shaping students' national identity, fostering patriotism, and enhancing civic awareness. In Ghana, recent curriculum reforms aim to help students better understand the nation’s challenges, achievements, and cultural diversity. Nonetheless, there are persistent concerns about whether these reforms effectively promote an inclusive national identity. At Wa Senior High School, students often display limited knowledge of key national events and figures, with regional and ethnic identities overshadowing a unified national perspective. The impact of the history curriculum on how students perceive national identity is unclear. Scholars, including Ajayi (1968) and Osabu-Kle (2000), argue that without a focus on shared narratives, history instruction may fail to cultivate a cohesive national identity. This study aims to examine the influence of the Wa Senior High School history curriculum on students' views of national identity, patriotism, and civic responsibility, identifying how different narratives might strengthen or weaken the sense of belonging among Ghanaian students.
