Herbert Wells considered the Russian script clear and logical and suggested publishing books in it.

He proposed establishing a Russian printing press in Britain, the first in the English-speaking world. He further proposed introducing Russian textbooks into British schools so students could learn the language and eventually read Russian literature. He hoped to foster economic and scientific ties between the two countries. To this end, Wells even took Russian lessons and translated several works of Russian literature into English.
