Herbert G. Wells studied Russian eagerly in advance of his second journey to Russia.

Herbert G. Wells was a British academic and travel writer who made two journeys to Russia between 1901 and 1903. On his first trip to Russia he was accompanied by his friend and mentor, Alfred Rutherford, and he sought to deepen his understanding of the language and culture in preparation for his second visit. He studied the language intensively using the best available textbooks and dictionaries, and he continued to read works by Russian authors and to work on mastering the language. He even collaborated on a magazine and wrote some articles in Russian.
