Why do bad things always happen to good people? There's a place I usually go to eat at night. Two weeks ago, after a long day at school, I stopped by this spot to grab a quick meal. The lady who owns the place boldly told me, “I’ve never seen you with long hair before!” I was like, “Me?” She replied, “Yes!” Meanwhile, I was still wearing my simple cornrows. 😩 I started explaining myself to her. I said, “You really haven’t seen me with long braids before?” I explained that I don’t like long braids because they touch my neck, and that it itches. I prefer simple styles. I told her, “I usually get nice hairstyles; maybe you just haven't noticed.” I tried everything to change her impression because comments like that make me uncomfortable—I'm a sensitive person. I kept thinking about it, and I felt like I had to defend my choice of hairstyle every time I visited. I shared this experience with my sister, and she told me many times to save up and get a nice braid so I wouldn't look homeless. You can imagine how I felt with all that ‘see finish.’ 😂 So, when I finally got these new braids, I’ve been receiving compliments everywhere! I even went back to show the lady at the shop my new hair, just to remind her that I can look good too. I’ve been playfully rubbing it in her face ever since! 😂 It’s not a crime to wear simple styles, right? 😩 So, please don’t pressure me! These braids are now three weeks old, and I'm still getting compliments on how neat and beautiful they are. The braider did an amazing job. I spent quite a bit on them, but I’m feeling good about all the compliments I keep receiving. It’s like a little pat on the back for me! 😂 I still haven't forgiven that lady, though. Yesterday, her sister, who helps her at the shop, got a new braid with colored extensions, and I told her, “This is the first time you’ve made your sister’s hair look this good!” Now I feel satisfied.
