Eighteenth Amendment definition

The Eighteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified in 1919 and prohibited the manufacture, sale, or transportation of alcoholic beverages in the United States. This amendment established national Prohibition, which lasted for 14 years until its repeal by the Twenty-First Amendment in 1933. The Eighteenth Amendment was introduced and championed by the temperance movement, which aimed to reduce the harm and social disruption caused by alcohol consumption. It was the first and only amendment to ever be repealed.
