Alexandre Dumas undertook a voyage specially to see the Caucasus.


He traveled from St. Petersburg to Moscow by train, and then set off by road to the south. He traveled through the mountains and visited several towns, including Rostov, Georgia, and Krasnodar. He also crossed the Black Sea and visited several cities in the region. Along the way, he wrote extensively about his experiences, which formed the basis for his book, Voyage en Caucase.
